How Do I Send A Text With TextNow?

Sending texts with TextNow is simple! We recently redesigned our TextNow app to make texting even easier:

1. Open your TextNow app.
2. The app should open on your Conversations page. (If not, tap on the main menu button in the top left-hand corner  and tap Conversations.)
3. You should see a red circle with a pencil icon in the bottom right of your Conversations panel:
4. Tap on the pencil icon to open the texting page:

At the top of the page, enter your contact's text number, texting email address or TextNow username. You can also tap on the person icon to the immediate right of this field to select a contact from your device's contacts app.
5. At the bottom of the screen, type your message in the field that says Type a message. You can also send a photo, a voice memo or an emoji by tapping on the icons near the Type a message field.

    Hey Jack,

    Thanks for reaching out! The "press stop" sounds like it may be a prompt within a group message for any of the participants to be able to leave. Otherwise, I would suggest for you to try these steps on your Android app and should you run into any more issues, please contact us at orders@textnow.com !

    Hi Austin!

    You can text any US or Canadian phone number through the application for free. The other person will simply receive it as a normal text and message you back. :)

    I am wondering how the recipients get the messages? If i am sending a text to a cell phone that is through a regular carrier plan is it received in their texting? Or do they have to have the app also?

    Texting my friend earlier just find , then at 230 pm it just stopped working . I was sending texts and they were not getting them however I received texts from him for a little while , but the text were like "why aren't responded?" Even though I was and I could call him on audio and it would coinnect , I could hear him but he couldn't hear me.. what's the problem all of a sudden?

    Hey Meagan! You can certainly check your messages, send and receive them from another phone by using the browser rather than downloading the app! Log into textnow.com/messaging and you'll be able to find all your history there.

    David- your messaging issues may be as a result of using a VPN, or a foreign IP address (as our service is currently only supported in North America). If you are still experiencing issues, please feel free to contact us at orders@textnow.com for further assistance!

    You absolutely can! Log into your account here at www.textnow.com and click on Text & Call Online to send and receive texts, and call through your browser.

    Hey Kalle! Since our service is only supported in North America at the moment, there are restrictions with regards to messaging international numbers. You can check out which carriers we support for international texting right here !

    Hey Janet! If you're using the app on a mobile device, all you'd have to do is hold your finger over the text conversation (from the messages inbox) and swipe to the left. A garbage icon should come up, which will allow you to delete that particular conversation.

    On the browser, you can click on the conversation you'd like deleted, then click on the top right hand menu (3 dots), and select "delete conversation"

    Deleting voicemails is a different story. There is no feature within the app currently that will allow you to do so. You'd have to look into deleting the conversations entirely.

    Don't worry, this is something we're looking into improving!

    How do you add a contact that is not on your phone contacts?

    Where can I see my friends list on here?

    If I only use this app within Canada only will it truly be all free?

    Why can't we use our own phone numbers on here?

    Hey Nancy! You can choose to add a contact through the menu buttons within a conversation. I'm afraid that we don't actually save contacts through our app, so we don't have a friends or contacts list built in natively.

    You can use the app anywhere in the world, and it will always remain free while using your own Wi-Fi. The only thing that may cost you would be international calling to countries outside of Canada and the U.S.

    Lastly, we simply don't support porting in numbers to non-wireless accounts, and as we do not support wireless service in Canada as of yet, we don't have that feature available.

    Hey Heather! You can certainly create an account on a computer at textnow.com/signup and use our browser (or desktop app) to use our service :)

    Sshuman1981- I'm afraid we don't support that feature, as it is not technologically possible to do between carriers (especially if the other carrier is using the standard voice network operated sms rather than an internet based messaging). Sorry for the trouble!

    Will not let me send text messages and will not play my voicemail messages. Cannot call cause I have no minutes. How can I tell if my texts are received?
