[Android] Security & Passcode

With TextNow, you can now add an additional layer of security on your TextNow app for the Android operating system.

The new security features are under their own section on the TextNow options menu. Here's a rundown of how it works.

First, open your TextNow app and tap on the Options icon ic_settings_24dp-2.jpg at the top of the main menu. Then, tap on the Security section on that page, as seen below:

Set a passcode: Tap on this to set up a passcode for your TextNow app. This four-digit passcode is separate from any other code or pattern you have on your Android phone to unlock it, and is also separate from your TextNow account password. Remember your passcode, as we will not have any access to your code and we have no way to reset it if you forget.

Automatically lock: Set how long before the passcode lock starts. Default is 30 seconds after your phone goes to sleep, and you can set in it increments of 1, 2, 5, 10, or 30 minutes.

Instant lock: Turn this on to have your power button also act as an instant lock for the TextNow app.

Please note that floating chats and quick replies will be turned off when you use a security passcode, and the ability to screenshot the TextNow app will also be disabled.

    Hi Renee! The only way you'd be able to remove the passcode would be by entering the passcode. Unfortunately, we wouldn't have access to it to be able to assist you further.

    Hi @May- if you forgot your username, you can try to reset your password with your email address instead.

    Hey Joshua! If you're looking to sign into your account, you can try to use your email address instead to sign in. Once you're in, you can look up your account settings to find your username (it would be your texting address)

    I am on a friend's acct seeking help to recover my own acct for phone number 330-776-8020 as it is the ONLY place I have all my contacts saved and I lost access to my old email & forget my user name. My name is Naomi Kaczmark and my old email was naomikaczmark@gmail.com. I reside in Girard Ohio the Youngstown Ohio area and my date of birth is 04/14/1979. I need this acct logged out of all other devices it's currently being used on as it's on devices i no long own or am in possession of as my primary # 330-646-4803 (AT&T) has been disconnected. This will ensure that my # will once again be for only my own personal use once I recover it and can log in securely to a new device or on my lap top.     The birthdate you provided is incorrect on the account, however, you should still be able to log into your account if you have all the login information (username or email address and password) online at textnow.com/messaging.

    Hi there! You can follow these steps to clear your passcode:

    Go to the device Settings
    Select Apps/App Manager
    Find the TextNow app and select it from the list
    Click Clear Data
    Click the Force Stop button

    Head back to your home page, and log back into TextNow!

    It is not used for anything other than an identifier for login purposes, however.

    Hi there! It seems like the last number that was recycled from your account was back in November.

    You then were assigned a new number last week, and the next day, changed it yourself to the new one. Either way, changing numbers does not delete active conversations.

    Can you change your username? I used a friends phone to sign up and it put in one of her usernames that is attached to her phone and I didn't notice until now. My email and other info is correct, just not the username.
